Furikake

Furikake

This is a typical Japanese dry seasoning that sounds like some weird sex thing but is instead used in the same way that we use Salt and Pepper. Honestly, I like this stuff better and while you can buy it in most Asian markets, it’s just as easy to make it yourself if you have a coffee grinder.

This takes simple white rice and turns it into meal.

Mise En Place

  • Coffee Grinder

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons roasted Sesame Seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of Salt
  • 1 sheet of Nori (Seaweed, it’s the same stuff they wrap Sushi with)

Method of Preparation

  • Crumble the Nori and pulse for a few seconds
  • Add the Salt and the toasted Sesame Seeds and pulse again but don’t grind it to a powder since you want it to have some texture.

Notes

  • Some recipes call for Bonito (dried fish flakes) and sugar and if you like you can add it.
  • MSG? It’s a seaweed extract and is more or less a super salt. No, it will not kill you and all the hype is simply misunderstood science.
