One drink if you’re with kids

I made a post on the fact that, if you’re with kids, I’m not going to serve you more than one alcoholic beverage. You’d think this would be a non-issue, something that everyone, aside from selfish drunks, could agree on. You would think that other than total trash, most people would put the safety of kids in front of their own addictions.

You’d be wrong.

“You can get sued for refusing service!!!” some people tried to say. In that regard, I don’t think you know what the hell you’re talking about. I don’t have to serve a person if I feel like they’re intoxicated since both myself and the business are liable if they get into an accident. That said, call the cops, call a lawyer, put me on the stand. I have no issues saying that I didn’t feel safe serving you while you were in the presence of or responsible for minors. I don’t care if you’re driving or not, they don’t need to be exposed to it and have this kind of shit normalized. Kids aren’t cats, you have to pay attention to them at all times.

Then I had the other “Well what if…X, Y, Z?” trying to come up with some scenario that it’s ok to have more than one drink with a meal and yeah, sure, if you’re having a seven-course meal, have another glass of wine but seriously, you’re really reaching to find a way to justify this while ignoring the core point of the matter.

Don’t like it? Oh well….

This is how I run things and, in that regard, it’s not a matter of forcing my values on you, it’s the fact that I’m not willing to contribute to kids being exposed to this kind of thing for numerous reasons. If you have such an issue with the way I run things, if it’s so dire that you get your swerve on, there are plenty of places that have no problem putting profits over the lives and welfare of kids. I’m just not one of em…

If you’ve followed me for more than two days, you know I love to party. That said, my nephews have never seen me drink or do drugs because there’s a time and place and if you can’t put that shit aside and keep it together in the presence of children, I’m going to go ahead and tell you, you have a fucking problem.

Now, I’m not saying that from time to time, at a family BBQ, people can’t get carried away. As a rare thing, I’m fine with this but if Dad needs to slam four Jack and Cokes to get through a meal with his wife and kids, it’s a red flag. There’s a difference between a rare occurrence and a regular thing.

I’m not here to tell anyone how to live (fuck Kid Rock) but at the same time, my ethics and public welfare are a much higher priority than what little profit the business could make on your tab, especially since most of you seem to only pull this kind of thing during happy hour. But come the fuck on, if you’re really going to get pissed off at me, for looking out for the safety of your kids, you need to ask yourself what you’re really upset about.

Love you for this…I was taught to drive at 12 so I could manage my brothers and dad home if he drank too much on weekend visits. A bar full of service members not only drank with him…they watched in awe as a 12 year old girl pulled out of the parking lot. Sincerely, thank you!

No problem. It sucks that it has to be addressed at all but if you look at the comments on the Facebook page, you’ll see why. I grew up in the industry and have more stories than I’d like so I understand.
