Going back to what I do best

Going back to what I do best

You have to live in order to be able to have something worth writing about. That’s why I’m back out on the road sitting on the same porch I wrote the cookbook on 3 years ago. Hell no I’m not staying in Bozeman, I love this town but I’ve done this and I need to move forward, into the unknown.

My brain has been fried from the past several months. After I got back from filming the first leg of the documentary everything more or less turned to shit and despite my best efforts to stay and face the music, it was time to go. When a friend asked me to come back east for a while it wasn’t so much choice as a beacon of light. I really wanted to stay, I had stuff, I really liked my couch.

After going through this a few times you stop getting attached to things like this. It comes down to three piles from largest to smallest; trash, store and pack. You lose a lot of weight this way and it helps you to realize what really matters. Living with only what I can carry on my back for ten miles sounds a bit extreme, I get this, but it works for me surprisingly well.

Plan? What plan?

I’ve done this a few times and plans are more or less a total waste of time so why bother? I kinda know where I’m going to be but right now I’m lucky to have the freedom to more or less go where I please. I have options. I also know that the great It has a fucked up sense of humor and that I will see and experience things that I don’t have the imagination to come up with on my own. Maybe I’ll end up at a ski resort this winter, maybe I’ll go to Key West for a while.

That’s part of the beauty of the situation, I’m not tied down with any kind of agenda. True, I’ve got a few things that I need to take care of during this misadventure yet I keep finding the best things come up at random.

So what’s next?

Well so far I’ve been able to get some great footage from a friend’s farm and met a girl who’s doing her first season in Yellowstone national park so the second part of the documentary is going well. Unlike the last leg, I’m taking my time and not rushing this and I fully expect this round will take a few months if not longer. I’m fine with this and in the meantime you can stay up to date with latest and greatest via Instagram or the Facebook page.

Want to help?

I’m looking for cool places to come cook and film at for the next few months. If you have any ideas let me know and while I doubt I can do most of them, I’ll try. I’m fully aware that this might be my last run so I want to make sure I get a chance to do everything I can and make the most of my time and miles. Need some help in your Kitchen and don’t mind me crashing on your couch? Send me a message and let’s see what happens.
